While many of you are already familiar with my background in business, here’s a brief summary of what I do.

HoneyTree was founded in 2017 while I was working in the film industry, and its mission was to provide “Passive Investing for Active Canadians.” Initially, my vision was to educate homeowners on leveraging their home equity to invest in commercial real estate.

Today, my real estate portfolio has grown to over $70 million, featuring assets in Woodstock, Hamilton, Toronto, Barrie, Orillia, Montreal, and Quebec City. My portfolio includes single-family homes, multifamily properties, land development, mixed-use properties, and, my personal favorite, hotels.

In 2018, during a trip to Montreal, I experienced a pivotal moment that changed the course of HoneyTree. Frustration with soaring real estate prices led me to explore new markets, where I stumbled upon a self-check-in hotel using a digital concierge. Inspired by this concept, I decided to shift from multifamily to hotels. For two years, I diligently searched for this elusive asset class, and by January 2020, I realized I needed to broaden my horizons.

In March 2020, I embarked on a new chapter in my career, leaving the film industry just a week before the global pandemic lockdowns. This fortuitous timing led me to my first hotel acquisition.

This period brought significant changes as the hospitality sector faced unprecedented disruptions. Hotels, once unattainable, suddenly became more accessible, creating a unique opportunity for acquisition. It was then that I dedicated my career to acquiring and developing hotels.

Highlights of My New Career


Since that time, HoneyTree has expanded its portfolio to include four hotels and is on track to generate over $4 million in revenue by 2024, affirming the success of our digital concierge model. We’ve been featured on Addy Invest three times, with thousands of Canadians investing with us. I’ve also consulted and discussed collaborations with niche hotel brands such as The June Motel, Penny’s Motel, Arcana, Vildhus, and Aneyro. We’ve developed two hospitality brand concepts, “Mogul” and “SimpleStay,” while pioneering the “crowd sharing” investment model.

Additionally, I’ve engaged in franchising discussions with the CEO of BarBurrito and have been offered the position of Head of Passive Investments with Investor’s Playbook, a subsidiary of Broker’s Playbook. Most notably, I’ve launched the HoneyTree Real Estate Trust, establishing it as the first trust of its kind in Canada.

I’m here to ask for your help in achieving a goal mandated by the CRA. I’m extending an opportunity to our family, friends, and business associates to invest in our Hotel Fund (HoneyTree Real Estate Trust) for as little as $1,000.

While the minimum investment for the general public is $10,000, I’m inviting our family, friends, and close business associates to join us with an investment as low as $1,000.

 

 

Why Only $1,000?

 

As we continue to grow, we aim to make our Hotel Investment Fund accessible to as many people as possible. We’ve set a goal of bringing on 150 investors before the end of 2023, and we need your assistance in reaching this target.

By reducing the minimum investment amount, we’re making it easier for you to invest in our Fund.

 

 

What's Special About the $1,000 Minimum?

 

This is the lowest amount that the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) allows us to accept for an investor to qualify for our investment. It also provides you with an opportunity to experience investing in a private real estate fund like ours, the Peak Multifamily Investment Trust.

 

 

Why Are We Offering This?

 

We’ve set a milestone of reaching 150 investors in our Fund by the end of 2023, and we can’t achieve it without the support of those closest to us.

 

The 150 investor milestone is a requirement by the Canadian Revenue Agency for investment funds like ours to qualify as a Mutual Fund Trust (MFT). Qualifying as an MFT allows us to continue accepting investments from RRSP, RESP, TFSA, LIRA, and RSDP accounts.

 

While we have until March 31, 2024, to reach the 150 investor milestone, we expect to achieve it sooner, given the interest we’ve already received from investors.

 

Once we reach 150 investors, our minimum investment amount will revert to $10,000.

 

We’re offering this opportunity to invest a minimum of $1,000 to the first 150 investors only. Once we reach that number, our minimum investment will increase to $10,000 for all investors.

 

Since the investment minimum is $1,000, we encourage both kids and parents to invest individually. This not only provides young people with an opportunity to invest at a young age but also helps us reach our goal of 150 investors sooner, as each person who invests counts toward our target.
